Job Title: General Manager


Minnesota Street Market is a small food & art co-op located in the thriving Central Minnesota university community of St. Joseph. We opened in July 2011 with a mission to provide high-quality, natural foods and basic goods with a focus on locally produced products in a welcoming, educational and convenient environment.

The success of the Minnesota Street Market depends on our team! We seek an experienced General Manager who is enthusiastic, creative, and forward-thinking — a leader capable of taking our business to a new level. This person is passionate about small business, local foods, natural products and the well-being of our employees, members, producers and community. The General Manager will report to the Board of Directors. The purpose of the role is to oversee our day-to-day operations to create a high-performance employee culture and enjoyable customer experience through effective management of human resources, finance, marketing, and sales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and pay employees
  • Create and manage all product and art consignment sales
  • Create and manage all marketing initiatives
  • Create and manage all outreach initiatives, including community and coalition engagement
  • Create annual budget
  • Prepare strategic plan to reach financial goals
  • Assign, measure, and revise daily, weekly and monthly performance goals to support annual sales objectives
  • Product development and management
  • Ensure store compliance with government health and safety regulations
  • Coordinate merchandise displays to supports sales and our brand
  • Represent business to Board of Directors
  • Coordinate with accountant
  • Recruit new members to the co-op

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Grocery or retail experience in overall store operations and merchandising
  • Experience working or volunteering in food or other types of co-ops
  • Experience in or knowledge of natural foods industry
  • Minnesota Food Safety Manager Certification (or willingness to take course and exam)
  • Enthusiasm for cooking local seasonal foods
  • Customer service
  • Gmail, Google Spreadsheets, Excel
  • Quickbooks (training available)
  • CoPOS point of sale system (training available)
  • Social media outreach: e.g. WordPress, Facebook, Instagram

Physical Demands

Stand continuously, lift/carry products frequently


MN Street Market is generally open 9 am to 7 pm seven days per week. The General Manager will work some weekends and holidays but will also have flexibility in scheduling and ability to set schedules.


Salary is negotiable based on experience and hours to be worked.

Job Hiring Timeline

Interviews will take place through July with our General Manager selection taking place in August. Ideally job will begin towards the end of August or sometime in September, however, we have flexibility with this time frame.
